5th - 6th Grade

What is Bridge 56?

The Bridge 56 is a ministry here at Southland that was created just for our 5th and 6th graders. We realize that this is a very crucial age for our preteens because they are transitioning from being a child to a teenager. Often times the fifth and sixth graders feel misplaced in a youth group or children's ministry. We believe it is important to create a safe, fun, and engaging place for our 5th and 6th graders to bridge the gap between children's ministry and the youth ministry. We want them to have their own individual identity where they can solidify their beliefs in Jesus and foster spiritual growth and leadership skills. We also want to walk alongside parents as they navigate this transitional phase.

Our Purpose

The Children's Ministry at Southland Baptist Church seeks to provide a loving and accepting environment for all children to grow in their relationship with Jesus. It's important to us that children feel like they have a place to belong and be known. By making children feel important, we hope to lay a foundation of spiritual truths that can be applied to their everyday lives.

Core Values

  • To introduce children to the knowledge of the saving grace of Jesus Christ.
  • To develop meaningful relationships with kids and their families.
  • To provide God-centered curriculum and teaching in all programs including weekly opportunities to socialize and study the Word of God, as well as other events throughout the year for the purpose of teaching, training, and developing relationships with the Lord and others.
  • To build upon each child's faith foundation

Objective

To help kids know...

  • that God made them.
  • that God loves them.
  • that Jesus wants to be their Savior.
  • basic Bible history.
  • how to use the Bible.
  • how all of the Bible fits together to tell ONE story.

Weekly Activities

Sundays:
9:00 am or 11:15 am – Worship
10:10 pm – Sunday School

On Sunday, we use Grow Kids curriculum from Stuff You Can Use.  Grow's lessons are anchored to the Gospel of Jesus Christ and focus on giving kids a full and holistic view of God with a “Big Idea” to learn every week.   Their goal is to help your kids grow spiritually, by teaching and discussing Scripture in developmentally appropriate ways.  Our preschool and children’s curriculum is aligned so that we can help parents have more spiritual conversations together in their home.

Wednesdays:
6:00-7:00 pm - OneWorship

Wednesday nights will look very different this year, but we are excited to invite our families to the MPB for an interactive worship time that is friendly for preschoolers through senior adults. There will be great worship music, kid-friendly Bible study, fun activities, games, and more! Join us as we learn more about what discipleship looks like for all ages and types of family units.

Extra Activities:
Not only do we have weekly activities to participate in, but we have many special activities throughout the year that your children can be a part of. Fellowships, musicals, camps, and VBS, just to name a few!
