Missions

Local Missions

Southland members recognize that the mission to share God's love with others doesn't just mean being sent overseas. We can be sent right where we are. Members are involved in a great variety of mission opportunities here in San Angelo. Southland members participate in jail ministries, Habitat for Humanity, children's ministries, a soup kitchen, Meals for the Elderly, and more.

English as a Second Language (ESL) Classes

Many Internationals enjoy learning English every Wednesday during the school year. We have four classes which teach every level of learning. We have dedicated teachers who love the Lord and our students. Bible Study and prayer is an important part of the learning process. For more information email Program Coordinator Karen Peiser.

Texas Hunger Initiative

4.5 million Texas are at risk of hunger every day. The Texas Hunger Initiative (THI) works to coordinate efforts throughout all levels of government - local, state, and federal - to find sustainable solutions to food insecurity. Based at Baylor University, THI has 7 branches throughout Texas. One of those branches is right here in San Angelo!

Tom Green County (TGC) Jail Ministry

The TGC Jail Ministry provides Christian services to inmates, detainees, the Sheriff's Department, and their families. The Jail Ministry has been sharing the Christian faith for twenty years and works to fulfill the Gospel as commissioned by Christ: "...I was in prison, and you visited me." - Matthew 25:36.

Global Missions

Water for All/Hope for Bolivia

Terry & Kathy Waller are Southland's staff missionaries. While they are currently based out of Bolivia, their ministry is quickly becoming a ministry without borders. Terry's water drilling technology is in demand in places like Nicaragua, Cameroon, Ethiopia, and beyond. Kathy's work, developing a cottage industry for some of the poorest women in Bolivia, is also becoming a model for missions in other parts of the world.

Cooperative Baptist Fellowship (CBF)

Southland sends a portion of our undesignated offerings and one designated offering each year to the mission efforts of the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship (CBF). CBF Global Missions works with churches and others to provide the bread of life - spiritual, emotional, medical, educational, and economical - in partnership with the most neglected, those with the greatest needs and the fewest resources.
