ESL Mininistry
Under the leadership of Karen Sanders, Southland has recently begun an English as a Second Language program. Classes meet every Wednesday at 6:00-7:00pm. Classes range from those who speak no English to those who are simply wanting to improve upon the English they’ve already learned. Child care is provided. For more information, please call the church office at 325-949-9633.
Angel Food
Angel Food Ministries is a non-profit, non-denominational organization that has developed a unique food outreach program. The program began in a single, small church just east of Atlanta in 1994. In its first month, Angel Food helped 34 families, handing out food from the Pastor’s back porch in Monroe, Georgia. Today, they have grown to serve over 165,000 families every month across 30 states.
Angel Food’s groceries are sold in a quantity that can fit into a large-sized box at $30 per unit. Each month’s menu is different than the previous month and consists of both fresh and frozen items, including meats, staple items and eggs. On an average, each box would normally retail for approximately $75. In San Angelo, depending on where you shop and what brands are purchased, the savings could be even greater. Generally, each box of food would feed a family of four for one week, or a single senior citizen for about a month. In addition to the menu boxes, bonus foods are offered at great savings, as well.
